Why was our industry destroyed in the last decade?
Because of the ignorance of not knowing who we are and the lack of preparation in the sector of a serious, constructive argument and if necessary an aggressive one.

Does the foundation impose itself on the sector chambers of commerce?
The chambers of commerce must continue defending the particular interests of their members, but with a common strategy that will help to strengthen the whole industry and allow it to progress.

What does the foundation do against the increase of imports?
We are constantly monitoring and analyzing the actions taken by import offices and on noticing harm to the industry, we turn to the Government and media because it is fundamental to defend our industry through the different protective measures which are applied worldwide.

We promote investment to renew our industry and make imports unnecessary in order to avoid the destruction of the whole sector, when imports are generalized.

What do Government employees and the media know about the textile and apparel industry?
Before the foundation was created, government employees and journalists had a limited knowledge of the sector. They scarcely knew about some companies which were famous either because of their economic problems or for their good performance. There were no references in the industry to provide information. For this reason and the lack of statistical data, it was doubted whether the textile recovery could be seen as an important factor to take into account in the reactivation of our country’s economy.

We have been working hard to change this, generating statistical reports about employment, production, investment and foreign trade and communicating this information to the Government and to the press. We are repositioning the sector and allowing everyone to know about its potential and dimension. We aim to revive the sector, which three years ago was broken, into an authentic leader of national industry.

Why are we described as a “sensitive” industry?
We are one of the industries that perceives changes in the macro economy most quickly. Therefore even though we were part of the economic recuperation engine after the devaluation, we are the first ones in warning other industries about adverse economic signs.
